Castell Roig

Penedes, Spain

Alongside the 18th-century estate at Masia can Serra, the Sabate i Coca family ecologically farm 85 acres of vines with a profound dedication to the production of wines and cavas.

In 1987, Marcel Sabaté Coca and his family began the restoration of an 18th century winery in Penedes, where they have been making wine ever since under the name Castell Roig (pronounced kast-tel roych) meaning “Red Castle” in Catalan. The key to making excellent wine is to own your own vines. Utilizing sustainable vineyard management practices and coupled with a deep knowledge of the land, Marcel and his family are able to produce top quality estate grapes. Growing their own grapes such as the indigenous varietal Xarel-lo (grown on 75 year old vines) gives the bodega better controls over all areas of their process in order to produce excellent wines and cavas.
